Powin Ranks Top 4 in Global (Excluding China) Energy Storage and Top 3 in the U.S.: A Milestone in Our Commitment to Building a Sustainable Future

By Mark Babcock, Chief Revenue Officer, Powin

Powin is proud to be recognized among the world’s leading energy storage providers in S&P Global Commodity Insights’ 2024 Battery Energy Storage System Integrator Report, ranking within the top four globally (excluding China) and securing a position as the third-largest provider in the U.S. by megawatt-hours deployed and contracted. This achievement is a testament to our dedication to advancing a sustainable energy future alongside our customers and partners. Our projects reflect our mission to deliver clean, reliable, and accessible energy storage solutions that empower communities, strengthen grid resilience, and support a low-carbon economy.

Powin’s Leadership in Energy Storage Across the US, Australia, and Worldwide

Our leadership in energy storage is particularly strong in the U.S., where Powin is ranked among the top 3 system integrators, outpacing several major international players. Our projects align closely with federal policies like the Inflation Reduction Act, which incentivizes domestic manufacturing, offers a standalone investment tax credit for energy storage projects, and enables the adoption of renewable energy at scale. This ranking is a testament to our strategic growth and commitment to helping America achieve its clean energy objectives.

Powering Progress: Powin’s Solutions for Clean Energy

Our flagship projects across the United States and globally highlight Powin’s role in supporting the clean energy transition and our commitment to reliable grid solutions. Here’s a look at some of our standout projects:

Sunstreams 2GWh Project, Arizona

Powin’s Sunstreams project in partnership with Longroad Energy is setting new standards in Arizona. Designed to support the state’s shift toward renewable energy, this 2GWh installation will provide Arizona Public Service with the flexibility to balance intermittent solar energy, ensuring a resilient grid even during peak demand. This project, powered by over 4,000 energy segments, is projected to generate enough energy to power 100,000 homes daily while reducing emissions by 460,000 metric tons annually—the equivalent to removing approximately 100,000 cars from the road.

Trenton Channel Energy Center, Michigan

In Southeast Michigan, Powin is transforming a historic coal power plant into an 880MWh clean energy storage hub for DTE Energy. This project, known as the Trenton Channel Energy Center, will deliver zero-emission power to around 40,000 homes. By revitalizing the former coal site, Powin and DTE are supporting job growth and regional economic development while contributing to Michigan’s clean energy goals. This pioneering project highlights the potential for repurposing aging fossil fuel infrastructure into assets for a sustainable future.

50MW Microgrid with BHE Renewables, West Virginia

One of Powin’s most innovative partnerships, this microgrid project with BHE Renewables in West Virginia will provide critical resilience and off-grid capabilities for the Ravenswood industrial site. Featuring a 50MW battery and a 106MW solar array, this installation will supply sustainable power to TIMET, a major titanium producer, while setting a new standard for long-duration energy storage. Capable of delivering power for up to 12 hours, this microgrid will serve as a model for energy independence in heavy industry and is one of the first projects compliant with the IRA’s domestic content requirements.

Building Trust through Innovation and Dedication

Powin’s position as a top-ranked energy storage provider is rooted in our commitment to a customer-centric approach. We prioritize our partners’ success, working together toward a sustainable, innovative, and resilient energy economy.

As we expand our capabilities and deepen our commitment to sustainability, Powin remains focused on advancing energy storage technologies that enable a cleaner, more reliable grid. Together with our customers and partners, we are making meaningful progress to address the climate crisis and power a sustainable future for generations.
