Watt’s New: Q2’s Energizing Journey with Powin

It’s Bigger Than Batteries. It’s A Cleaner Tomorrow

We live and breathe energy storage. And yet, we’ve never seen as much growth in the industry as we’re currently witnessing. It’s inspiring and nothing short of tectonic. It has also made for a fruitful and meaningful Q2 with many promising partnerships and opportunities for us to expand our US and international footprint. All this is an important reminder of what we’ve known all along: we need energy storage now more than ever. After all, our clean future depends on it, and we’re honored to be part of this important change
Powin’s Q2 2023 was marked by several milestones. During the last few months, we:
  • Finalized a 10GWh supply agreement with Eve Energy to serve the global Energy storage market and support the Waratah Super Battery, the most powerful battery in the world.
  • Signed an agreement with Jabil to boost US manufacturing capabilities and accelerate the development of energy storage platforms.
  • Partnered with ACE Engineering to bolster energy storage project pipeline, including Powin’s flagship project, the Waratah Super Battery.
  • Committed to launching a new energy storage project with a combined capacity of 400MWh in Texas in collaboration with Apex Clean Energy.
  • Signed a battery cell purchasing agreement totaling over 3 GWhs with REPT BATTERO.
  • And many more.

The Powin Difference

By ensuring access to clean, reliable, and affordable power, we not only change lives. We transform the grid and our future in the process. It all comes down to the power of innovation, and it’s what drives much of what we do at Powin. After all, the POWer of INnovation is at the heart of what we stand for. It’s also what POWIN stands for. Literally.

April 27: Powin Enters Into a 3 GWh Purchasing Agreement With REPT

Having passed a vigorous vetting process, REPT will supply over 3 GWh of battery cells over the course of the next year. Not only do REPT’s battery cells bypass the need for cobalt, but they’ve also met high safety and performance standards for lithium-ion batteries. Collaborations like this will help Powin avoid unnecessary supply chain bottlenecks while ensuring they’re able to meet the growing demand for batteries.

Earth day 2023

Powering Our Planet. One Battery at a Time.

When you work in the energy storage space, you come face-to-face with the urgent need to do everything you can to save our planet on an almost daily basis. And so for us, Earth Day is a reminder of why we do what we do and a nudge to keep going. This year’s theme, Invest in Our Planet, was particularly meaningful. It was a great opportunity to reflect on what we’re doing to make a carbon-free tomorrow a reality including recycling and repurposing all end-of-life batteries and hazardous materials training among other things.

Earth Day 2023

Our sustainable approach to the entire battery life cycle:

End of Life Disposal

We have service agreements with several vendors to recycle and repurpose all end-of-life batteries and modules, as well as electronics and metals. In 2022, Powin’s recycling efforts reduced over 100,000 lbs (50 tons) of end-of-life modules from entering landfills.

Meet the World’s Largest Battery Powered by Powin

Worlds Largest Battery by Powin

To say there are no other batteries like it anywhere in the world wouldn’t be an understatement. When completed, Australia’s Waratah Super Battery will be one of the most powerful in the world, with a continuous active power capacity of at least 700MW. The tender for this project was awarded to Akaysha Energy, a leading BlackRock owned battery storage developer, who approached Powin to supply a 1.68 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

This project marks a significant turning point for Australia’s energy industry as it transitions away from fossil fuel dependent power stations to cleaner renewable sources. We’re proud to play a role in transforming the Australian power grid into something that’s safer, more reliable and far more sustainable. The future looks bright as more and more countries are waking up to the power of energy storage.
