As any energy industry professional will tell you, California and Texas are in a league of their own when it comes to renewable generation and deployment.
California, which produces more solar energy than any other state, has been furiously installing utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in recent years to store excess solar power for times of peak demand when the sun isn’t shining. In fact, California achieved a major milestone on April 30 when batteries supplied more than one-fifth of the state’s electricity at night. The state has also powered its energy grid with 100% carbon-free, renewable electricity for at least a part of each day on 100 separate days this year.
