PORTLAND, OR — Powin LLC (Powin), a global energy storage platform provider, today announced a nearly 3 GWh purchasing agreement with REPT BATTERO (REPT), a high-quality provider of LFP battery cells that is backed by China’s stainless steel and nickel giant Tsingshan Industry.
After undergoing a rigorous vetting and qualification process, REPT has been validated as a supplier for Powin and will initially provide the company with over 3 GWh of battery cells in the next 12 months. REPT’s LFP battery cells eliminate the need for cobalt while demonstrating a higher safety and performance profile than other lithium-ion chemistries.
“As demand for electric vehicles and stationary storage continues to surge, building a diverse network of highly qualified suppliers is essential. REPT not only meets our extensive safety and performance requirements but also has the financial backing investment strategy and global footprint needed to successfully keep up with this booming industry,” said Stuart Bolland, Powin’s Chief Operating Officer.
REPT batteries have both excelled at meeting key industry safety standards of UL1642, UL9540a, and UL1973, but have also fulfilled all the requirements put forth by Powin’s own evaluation framework. This framework provides a holistic assessment that includes a bankability review, commercial analysis, technical analysis, Quality Assessment, and performance testing. To ensure the best results, our testing methodology evaluates key cell characteristics, including cycle & design life, DC internal resistance, round trip efficiency, thermal performance, capacity analysis, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), State of Charge (SOC) curves, and fire safety.
“It is our great honor to partner with Powin, a forward-looking and world-leading enterprise. Powin’s industry-seasoned team, large-scale program skills, and R&D capabilities align with REPT’s sustainable products and commitments,” said REPT BATTERO CEO Dr. Hui Cao.
Powin’s unique business model and innovative supply chain strategy has enabled the company to become one of the largest energy storage providers in North America. With nearly half a dozen qualified and approved battery cell vendors, Powin is less susceptible to supply chain bottlenecks and can work faster to meet the rapidly growing demand for batteries.
